What is Zwei Dreizehn?

While writing “Deine Mutter kommt nach Hause”, I usually get frustrated. The boundaries for a family drama are usually pretty fixed: there’s a firm set of rules which you have to follow so that the reality still makes sense. In order to clear my mind, Zwei Dreizehn (”Two Thirteen”) got created. It’s not a side project – it’s just everything that Deine Mutter kommt nach Hause can’t be (and vice versa).

Two Thirteen is a bit absurd, a character drama with a mild philosophic and science-fictiony aftertaste. A mix of everything I’ve written up till now, and that’s why I love it.

What’s it about?

The year is 1978 and Dan’s got it made. At 23, he is a leading researcher in physics, and gets opportunities thrown at him. Until that one night, at thirteen past two, when he is driving down a road, runs over and kills a stranger. After that moment, his life is scarred forever. It drives him mad, until he finds a manual: a manual to build a time machine…
